Dubai awarded Investor in People standard
The Government of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has been announced as the first National Tourist Board in the UK to be awarded the Investor in People Standard. And, as the only company within the Tourism and Leisure Sector in London to receive the accolade, the DTCM joins over 55,000 organisations in the UK committed to setting a level of good practice for improving business performance through their people.
Commenting on the award, Ian Scott, director UK and Ireland for the Government of Dubai, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), said, “This award really means a lot to us. We invest in our staff and recognise their importance in promoting Dubai as a leading destination for leisure and business tourism as well as inward investment from the UK and Ireland. Our people are our most important asset and we recognise the importance of motivating them. We have a strong team and value their hard work and contribution to making Dubai a successful destination. This award is a real tribute to the work of all the DTCM staff.”
The recent commendation further highlights the DTCM’s dedication to investing in its people. The DTCM has won a number of industry awards, including Best UK Tourist Board in the 2010 Travel Weekly Globes and the 2009 TTG Awards. The DTCM has also recently collected awards in various categories in the Travel Agents Choice Awards, Irish Travel Trade News and Conference & Incentive Travel Readers Poll. This array of awards demonstrates the DTCM’s ongoing commitment to quality and excellence within its organisation.
Investor in People’s aim is to help employers across the UK to develop their businesses by making the most of their most valuable asset – their people. The DTCM operates with rewards and benefits to motivate staff including a wellbeing programme, allowing staff members to have time out of the office for wellbeing initiatives, such as Pilates classes, yoga, swimming and football. They were praised for having training, development, communication and empowering employees at the centre of their ethos.
Simon Jones, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Investors in People, said “This is a fantastic achievement by Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing and it goes to show that working with Investors in People can benefit organisations of all sizes and sectors. The Investors in People standard is practical, flexible and easy to use and we hope that more organisations in the area will be encouraged to work with us to help them get the best from their people.”
